Skateboarding saved my life
We all engage in activities such as sports, social clubs, events, etc. Why do we indulge in these activities that consume our time, in which we can't get back? What is the story behind these "hobbies" or "moments" that we sacrifice our most valuable commodity in life, our time?
Basketball is my first love. Why did I enjoy the game of ball besides it being a fun activity? As an adult, I know understand why I was so passionate about playing basketball. While I was on the court, even during the most stressful and trying times, it represented a sort of freedom. That was the only time where nothing else mattered. I was able to express myself creatively with my moves and I also learned constantly. That sport provided me with the freedom of self expression and that is where my passion came from. That right there, saves lives.
As I was driving one day, I saw a group of guys skateboarding in a parking lot area one day. I was intrigued because it looked like a community or something. I just so happened to have my camera with me. When I drove towards the skaters I could feel the passion I just described about me playing basketball. Freedom, joy, pain, desire, passion, determination were all seen on their faces. I wanted to capture that, so I approached them.
